  29. You all had the same solution. I was extremely amazed and thankful that you
  30. guys took the time to respond. I followed your advice and TeX installed
  31. error free. But up on running LaTeX I got the error
  32.  
  33. This is TeX, Version 3.1415 (C version 6.1)
  34. I can't find the default format file!
  35.  
  36. seemed like it could not find the file because it did not know where to
  37. look, so I gave setenv commands in texmf.cnf to my .cshrc file and sourced
  38. it. Then it knew where to look, but there was no latex.fmt, so I brought
  39. one from a SunOS 4.1.3 machine in Princeton (where I still have an account)
  40. and latex finally worked. But dvips does not work and gives an error like:
